Spooky Season Movie Classes

Only one more film remains….DRACULA!

Dracula: Featuring the tagline “Love never dies”, this lavish depiction of Bram Stoker’s exciting tale of Count Dracula’s obsession with Mina Harker stars an array of incredible actors, such as Gary Oldman, Winona Ryder (again!), Keanu Reeves, and Sir Anthony Hopkins. Like Crimson Peak, the costume design is integral to the plot and will be considered in depth, as well as other facets of the story and Francis Ford Coppola’s direction.

DETAILS: Since we are all feeling the pinch of inflation, I am dropping my prices for the month of October to $25 per film class instead of $30. I am hoping that helps people out! This is a very low price for a class taught by a person with my level of expertise (and expertise makes a huge difference). Typical industry rate for a 2-hour class is more in the $65-85 range, so $25 is a STEAL.

ALSO, I am listing TWO DATES for each class, to accommodate more peoples’ schedules. Just let me know which class you plan to attend so I know when to expect you!

DATES REMAINING:

DRACULA: Oct. 20 (Th.) at 7:30-9:30pm OR Oct. 23 (Sun.) at 2:00-4:00pm

WHAT DO YOU GET FOR YOUR FEE:

  1. A literary interpretation of the film presented in a way that is easy to understand. No prior knowledge of the film interpretation is needed, although it helps if you have watched the film recently.

  2. Extra information about the film: usually this takes a personal direction in terms of what interests me and what aligns with my interests. So for example, I LOVE movie and tv series costuming, so you can expect with a film where the costumes stand out, that I’ll be talking about the meaning and symbolism in the costume choices, the designer, etc. Ex.: if a film is a fairy tale, you’re going to get a crash course in fairy tale studies to serve as a background to the film. Ex. if a film touches on something I’ve studied, such as some of the works of Arthur Miller with a scholar who published on him, you’ll get additional information about what I learned in college classes and beyond.

  3. Simple questions in class here and there to get you thinking: I often like to ask questions such as “did you notice anything in this part in the background of the scene?” or “which character do you think has the most internal conflict”, etc., to get you thinking and to give you a chance to give YOUR opinion or reading of the film. However, there is NEVER ANY PRESSURE on you to answer. I would never, NEVER just call on someone in a class and force them to talk, so you will never have to think on your feet and speak unless YOU choose to.

  4. A detailed handout/nearly a transcript of the material covered in the class emailed to you after we finish, so you have something to take with you.

  5. Lastly, you get to be…MORE INTELLIGENT. Yep. I said it. #sorrynotsorry. I really think learning new material on anything you feel interested and passionate about is the key to making you a more intelligent person, and after one of my film classes, you can pretty much call yourself an expert on interpreting that movie! (Plus, some learning is actually fun, and people always tell me that my classes are a fun activity and escape!)

THE BIG QUESTION I GET ALL THE TIME is…DO I HAVE TO HAVE MY SCREEN ON?

NO! Of course not. I totally get it. I’m an introvert too. I don’t like to go into new situations and be “exposed” over zoom myself, so I’d never force that or expect that from someone else. If you want to remain totally anonymous, that is cool with me! Just make sure your screen name is yours or similar enough to yours so I know to let you in from the waiting room. But if you’d like your screen off the whole time, go right ahead, and I do ask that everyone keep themselves muted at all times unless you want to speak, so we can avoid feedback noise.

Ok so with all of that said, here is the magical button so you can register for a class (or two or all three!). After I receive your registration, look for an email from me with the private zoom link for your class!
