Online Class Reviews

I had the pleasure of taking a few of Susan’s film courses that focus on Guillermo del Toro’s work. I couldn’t recommend Susan enough for her courses. She is personable, intelligent, extremely knowledgeable, articulate, funny, intuitive, and kind. Her experience as a celebrated professor is absolutely apparent, as she can easily read a room and make tiny adjustments to interactions depending on her audience. I’ve been in classes where there were others who were very familiar with film and very articulate and laid back, and I’ve also been a part of groups where there wasn’t much participation. No matter what, I left the classes with a wealth of information and most of all, a deeper appreciation for the films and connection to the vision of the director.

I was admittedly nervous giving the classes a try, because I am quite introverted, very shy, and am not a “film buff” by any means, and admittedly have this weird thing where I can’t really remember details or movie plots well other than how they make me feel. I can’t express how comfortable Susan made me feel despite this. It’s absolutely like we were all sitting around having some coffee (or you know, wine) at a book club meeting. It is very casual and invites conversation, and the classes have a bunch of laughs mixed in with worlds of information. What’s really cool too is that after the courses, when I go back to watch the movie discussed (or *any* movie), I have a totally different eye for things like colors palettes that the director may use in a certain way (my favorite thing that I’ve learned from her), to architectural details, and music. Her course actually helped me remember some of the details that otherwise disappears from my mind.

Susan is an absolute treasure with an incredible gift for teaching and understanding her audience. I only wish that I could have had her as a professor in school. I can’t even imagine what I would have come out with if I had the privilege of sitting in for even an hour a week with her.

My suggestion? TAKE THE CLASS. Seriously. Take advantage if you see a freebie, or coupon, or even a video clip of her to see what you’ve got coming. I can say without a doubt that she will capture and hold your attention, and that you’ll learn something fantastic.

I have taken a few classes with this Professor and each time you can tell how much effort she puts into each class. She always goes above and beyond. I can't recommend her classes enough!

Susan leads classes/workshops where she is a subject matter expert. She is obviously passionate about the topics and finds ways to shed light on themes that I would never pick up on myself. I left the session wanting more. More of the subject we discussed and more of the her being there to lead the discussion.

Teaching and Tutoring Reviews

High School/Middle School English Tutoring: Ms. Redington has been a blessing to our family. My son, a sophomore in high school has taken a very challenging English Honors class. When I saw his grades going down, I sought out Ms. Redington for help. She helped my son improve on his analysis skills, specifically elaboration and making connections to the content material and the real-world. She was always willing to help and worked with him on many of his writing assignments, book essays, literary analysis, propaganda techniques analysis and scripting for video assignments and in preparing for in class writing tests. Ms. Redington helped him dig deeper and think more about all the nuances and complexities of a topic. He was consistently getting 75% for his assignments before. After receiving tutoring lessons from Ms. Redington he is getting 95% to 100% on his tests and assignments and is the highest scorer in his class. She has extensive knowledge and experience as a college professor. She is great in tutoring for all ages. My middle schooler also received tutoring lessons from her and improved his writing skills. Thank you Ms.Redington!

Tutoring/Teaching: Two things that I consider to be important during my college career are the idea of being creative and being able to trust professors with what I write. I learned many things in this course with Professor Bobby that I will cherish and use in my future career. The challenges I encountered allowed me to change the distinct ways I perceived things in life and how I could make it even better. Professor Bobby did so well at teaching this course, and I know I am not the only person who might think this, as she has the power to release the creative side of her students. The reason I say this is because I am not a creative person. This semester, I have evolved into writing stories and even memoirs essays, and I never thought I would write about such things until I took this course. I developed such conformity with Professor Bobby that I felt free to write about my personal life and personal experiences, even if the meaning was hidden behind my poems or works. But I felt like I could trust her with my thoughts and feelings, as she is so comprehensive with her students. The only thing I regret is that I should have definitely taken this course earlier because it would have benefited my past courses in my college career. However, I will be forever grateful that I took this course (even if it was during my last semester at Wesley) since I see it positively impacting my future career. Professor Bobby and this course inspire me to continue to write to unleash my creative side in every possible way and perhaps even write a book someday. Professor Bobby has helped many students to find their creative side unknowingly, which will make them feel like a completely different person. I know I am because I have learned to trust myself, the same way I trust Professor Bobby with my writing and my feelings.

Tutoring/Teaching: I had Susan as a professor several times throughout my college career. She knows the content she is teaching and she always makes me feel safe learning in her classroom. She is always available to help when needed and she is kind and supportive. One of the best teachers I have ever had.

—Christina McTheny Grider, former student and graduate of Wesley College

Tutoring/Teaching: During my years attending Wesley College, I took English classes under Professor Bobby. She was a phenomenal teacher and I would gladly take more classes under her guidance. The classes I took involved reading a short story or watching a movie and then analyzing it in our own way through essay form. This teaching style allowed students to cultivate their own ideas while also bouncing off Professor Bobby’s expertise and other students’ thought process. It was an active and engaging learning environment. I would 100% recommend her to anyone looking for help with English writing or analysis.

Tutoring/Teaching: This remarkable educator is a creative engineer with insurmountable knowledge and experience of diverse and multicultural literary works in folklore, fairy tale, mythology, and so much more. Not only will you acquire a mastery of these literary works, but you will also obtain a new admiration for related material. Prepare to become immersed in the world of fantasy and realistic fiction all the while comprehending the history, culture, and geographical location of each work. Moreover, you will be fond of the techniques used to teach each class and the altruistic and intriguing personality of this instructor. You will have a superb experience learning and comprehending all material provided. In addition, your skills in grammar and the English language as a whole will become enhanced. Ultimately, this educator, her classes, and her expertise are highly recommended and are well deserving of a 5 star review and beyond!

Book Editor Reviews

Susan is wonderful. She was very encouraging during our session regarding novel plotting/planning. Susan offered great advice, was easy to work with, knowledgeable, and helped me feel confident in my ideas and writing. Looking forward to working with her again soon!

—Nicola Hodgson

I first met Susan a decade ago when I attended one of her classes as a student. Recently, Susan helped me with editing a manuscript for a novel that is currently being sought for publication. During the entire process, she was clear on her rates and the high expectations I should have for the services I was commissioning. The fact is that Susan exceeded those expectations almost immediately. She was professional, attentive, rigorously focused in her approach, and effective. She is able to recognize the minute details and the broader themes, to approach readings with multiple mindsets that the reader may have. Susan excels at being able to provide impartial feedback while acting as an advocate for the work, advancing it to its best finished state. Even more valuable than her focus is her passion for helping others improve. Her insights have helped me to evaluate my own writing with a new tool set of critical lenses. She doesn’t only mark down that a passage or phrase doesn’t work, but provides reasoning as to why it doesn’t along with suggestions as to how it could be improved. Susan has also helped me to better understand how to navigate the publishing industry. She is intelligent, capable, and extraordinarily well-versed in classical and contemporary literature, criticism, myths, the study of fairy tales and legends, narrative archetypes, and many of those common threads joining disparate fields and creators. What struck me the most in her approach was how she could envision a work’s broader composition as clearly as she could spot small details. I picture a hawk that can see the whole valley, forest and fields, but can still notice a tiny mouse that would have been hidden to anyone else. She has a prowess in being able to preserve an author’s voice while elevating works to their highest potential. With respect to her abilities as an editor, a professor, a public speaker, and a writer, I can absolutely recommend Susan.
